My grandfather, who is 84 and lives in Moscow, calls me all the time and says the economy in England is bad so I should come to Russia. Aha.- Saw an episode of The Practice where the guy who later played Ben Linus on Lost is a manipulative serial killer. Explains how he got cast.
- FT mag has a game theory analysis on whether to return MJ concert tickets or keep them for future value. Looks like AEG will win at the end.

What AM I doing? Just wrote a letter that says "I am interested in a conference co-ordinator position". I iled! Gotta get on with the books.
An interview seems to be a changepoint. Russians have dismissed me if they never actually talked to me, sure. But never after an interview.
This does not go for situations where there were informal discussions with people who knew me, or of me. This is open-market.
And this is territory-independent. I was hired by Russians for jobs in the U.S., as well as turned down by the English for jobs in Moscow.
Interesting stats given that I lived abroad for most of my life after 16. It's personality (Russians) vs. technicality (others). I think.I have been offered EVERY job I EVER interviewed for, if all interviewers were Russian. And denied every one where they weren't, so far. Hm.It appears that in all my years in the US, Russia and England, I've been turned down each time - and only!- when interviewed by non-Russians
While I was writing last update, this popped up in a feed: "cnnbrk- U.S. unemployment rate at its highest in 26 years". Isn't this ironic,
04-2009 to date in England. 120-150 applications so far, 5 interviews so far, and the 6th next week, no offers. Time to change... something.
In 08-10/2007 in Moscow:+/- 30 CV's, 4 interviews. "Moscow Times" turned me down, 3 eventually offered jobs. Two jobs sucked, third was RIA.@Natsla - BTW "hold on" means "wait", you probably meant to say "hang in there", as americans would in such a case ))) but I understood you
@Natsla - I tried both. But if I am determined to work for that organization, then I will, you know how it goes. Thankfully it is VERY big.
I hate myself for sitting on the North Korea materials more than for anything else. Exactly a year since the fateful NC column in RIA now.
In 05-06/2006 in Moscow: +/-30 resumes, 3 meaningful interviews. Amnesty International turned me down, 2 others offered a job, incl. TWEED

Я решила присоединиться к всемирному соревнованию по изложению своих мыслей в менее, чем 140 знаках (некоторые тут помнят, как в одном информагентстве чуть не произошла революция, когда объвили что заголовки должны быть не больше 70 - так вот, хотя не понимаю сути Твиттера как коммуникационного тула, побороться с графоманом в себе всегда полезно).
Мой твиттер будет @olgachilds и про него могу сказать две вещи - (1) подавляющее большинство мыслей будет по-английски, (2) я вряд ли буду в нем писать про то, что происходит в России, если это не международная тема.
Для публикации более длинных мыслей будет создан другой блог на английском языке. У мен яесть одноименная твиттеру страница на фейсбуке, но я ей не пользуюсь потому что мне не нравится платформа фейсфбука - тем, что она закрыта неюзерам. Но в ЖЖ мне не нравится его русскость, так что, поиск продолжается.
Этот журнал в будущем может использоваться для каких-то чрезвычайных объвлений друзьям, так тчо не расфрендивайте его. Также, для неполльзователей твиттера, я,как сделали некоторые другие юзеры подключу твиттер-апдейтер, который будет постить сам.
Короче вот -
(1) если у кого есть твиттер из френдов, сообщите мне его, я вас зафренжу. Думаю, я не всех нашла.
(2) подскажите где взять программу котора репостит с Твиттера в ЖЖ, как у Пономарева или Гатова ))
ну и третий вопрос к maxttl как всегда - как сделать мне юзерпик 48 на 48? опять хрень получилась.

Это - моя любимая статья из английской прессы за все время моего тут проживания.
Ей месяца полтора, просто лень загружать было.
Но ее еще не скоро что-либо превзойдет.
Причем, прошу заметить что в статье описывается не только предикамент польской пары - они умудрились запереться в туалете, и от двери открутилась ручка - но и метод их чудесного спасения, примененный вызванной пожарной бригадой. Пожарные открутили такую же ручку от двери с похожим замком, и просунули ее под дверь туалета, чтобы поляки могли прикрутить ее вместо отвалившейся.
На самом деле если кто-нибудь еще сомневается, что мы живем на острове безумия, и англичане оторваны от настоящей жизни, как та ручка от двери, то этот героический эпос - для вас.

я бы подумала что шутка, если бы новая программа пожертвования лифчиков не была на первой полосе местной газеты пару недель назад.
А месяц назад два номера подряд были посвящены борьбе местнйо жительницы с торговой сетью Marks and Spencer. Жительница утверждала что практика, в соответствии с которой магазин берет на два фунта больше за лифчики супер-больших размеров, является дискриминацией против женщин с большой грудью. M & S объяснял в суде, что такие лифчики сложнее производить и материала больше уходит, но - не вышло. Дискриминация была побеждена. Теперь все лифчики стоят одинаково. На яуть ли не первой полосе полосе была фотка тетки с обнимку с уцененным бюстгальтером:

посмотрела фильм The Knowing. Дело в том что мне довольно сложно смотреть что-либо, так как я всегда знаю что будет. То есть я сразу увидев лишние знаки говорю - это координаты, широта и долгота. И в реальности фильма герою Кейджа - профессоту MIT - почему-то потребовалось два дня чтобы об этом догадаться. и то он догадался не сам а просто оказался в месте аварии и посмотрел на показания ГПС.
ясно, что IQ МИТ-овского профессора должен быть вдвое выше моего. почему тогда пишут сценарии при которых я всегда знаю, что будет, раньше героев?
было сно что недописанные знаки - координаты этой кабины в лесу. И было ясно, что эт овсе инопланетяне.
И фильм был бы креповый, если бы не было твиста этого - переплетени с библейским мотивом в конце. То есть тут у Дуси в школе обсуждали теории происхождения мира и жизни, ну там дарвинизм, креационизм, и мы с ней говорили о том что вот типа религиозный креационизм - одна из форм теории intelligent design, предполагающей создание мира в качестве научного эксперимента или еще почему-то третьей силой. И религи это один из способов объяснить эту силу, не имея научных данных, и я ей сказала что альтернативная и в принципе с научной точки зрения более обоснованная теория - вмешательсво потусторонней цивилизации типа.
И смешно что фильм иллюстрирует именно эту теорию. То есть говорит = круто, конечно были Адам и ева, и было дерево. Тока их забрали из предыдущего эксперимента инопланетяне и высадили на земле.
Но в Матрице все это сделано гораздо лучше. Типа вместо Бога из Машины там Бог-Машина, и так далее. Ultimate intelligence.
Но смешно что фильм о способности прдевидеть, о случайности и предопределенности. И так далее. И что это тогда за фильм если смотрящий способен предвидеть все, что произойдет в фильме? Насколько хорошо он иллюстрирует свою же тему?
Ну и про IQ. Дуся прошла какой-то тест и он сказал что ее IQ - 131. Я никогда в жизни не проходила тест, потому что давно один раз собиралась, но там было написано что надо его проходить на родном языке, а я никак немогла решить на каком - русский вроде родной, а сны и мысли -по-английски. Но теперь хочу. Кто знает, где тест-то брать?

Один раз я написала одному из своих бывших начальников смс, в котором была фраза - что-то типа, "я не знаю что делать".
На что он мне ответил довольно раздраженно, в духе - "что за патетический бред, ты ведь всегда знаешь, что делать, даже когда делаешь полную ерунду".
Я сначала обиделась на это смс, но потом была вынуждена признать, что он прав. Потому что на самом деле я хотела ему написать "не знаю, что БУДУ делать", но из-за четырех лишних знаков получалось на 1 смс больше, а я была в роуминге и смс были дорогие. И мне пришлось вычеркнуть слово "буду". И получилось как будто я жалуюсь, что не знаю, что делать. А на самом деле я всегда знаю, просто тогда я ЕЩе не знала что я БУДУ делать в той ситуации.
Вот и сейчас я примерно в такой ситуации. Но такой уж я человек. Я совершенно никогда не поверю что кто-то знает, что делать в моей жизни, лучше, чем я. Если не знаю я, не знает никто.
